Interpret Matisse

I've been studying Matisse who once said, "There are flowers everywhere for those who wish to see them." But what think ye of his windows-windows he was famous for  generallyopening up to a beautifully scenic mediterranean calm of blue and green--in this picture. The year happens to be 1914.

  1. Matisse doesn't do anything for me personally.

  2. Not my favorite either. Just the painter I am reading about right now.

  3. Here's what I see. He replaced the landscape but kept the windows. They open up to the horror of what is already happening in Europe. The blackness envelopes everything.
